Trekking options in Pokhara are ample. Pokhara is a tourist paradise of Nepal. It is approx 200 kms west of Kathmandu and lies in Gandaki zone. It is easily accessible by road and flight from Kathmandu.
Pokhara serves as first stop over or pre base camp for most of the trekkers and mountaineers undertaking the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal.
The trekking offers breathtaking views of the mountain ranges from close quarters. The whole idea about trekking is enthusiasm and feeling of close proximity in mother nature’s lap. Only if one has trained enough or has the stamina and enthusiasm, only then this kind of adventurous journey is advisable.
Although, I am not well aware of all the details of trekking , but I managed to talk to some local people and tourists from abroad and gathered some information.
There are different kinds of options in Pokhara ranging from a 2-3 day trek to 18-21 day trek. One has to be very well prepared with all mountaineering gear , clothing and accessories , even when going on a short trek.
Following are the options which people generally prefer and are easily available :
TREKKING AREA DURATION HEIGHT
GHANDRUK TRACK 2-3 DAYS 1900 MET
GHOREPANI TRACK 3-5 DAYS 3210 MET
GURUNG HERITAGE TRACK 5-7 DAYS 2500 MET
KORECHEN TRACK 7-8 DAYS 3682 MET
ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP TRACK 8-10 DAYS 4130 MET

LOWER / UPPER DOLPA TRACK 18-21 DAYS 5011 MET
Although, this time I did not take up any trekking, but I do aim for at least a small trekking circuit in near future.
I dedicate this article to trekkers who lost their lives during avalanche in October ‘2014 in Pokhara , Nepal.
This is a salute to the courage and guts of all trackkers and mountaineers.
