The Château de Labourdonnais, a royal residency of 19th century Mauritius of a strong figure Christian Wiehe. The mansion was built in 1856 with Italian and Victorian influence.
I was curious to see how royal families lived in 19th century. This was a modern yet luxurious house while maintaining the traditions. The entrance was refreshing with three fountains. As In entered, two lions welcomed with a lobby behind. Big traditional chandeliers with sparkling floors looked elegant.
Dining hall gave a royal look with carved furnitures, beautiful silverware and designer chandeliers.
There was another pantry room which housed exotic utensils including pickle storage jars. They reminded me of Indian tradition.
Drawing room setting was very nice as well with beautifully designed furniture. There was a drawing room with regal touch again having elegantly carved sofas, mirror, centre table.
The place also had silver utensils that were used during that era.
Beyond this area was a humongous area overlooking vast greenery. Chairs were placed and beautiful stairs were going up. It was a captivating view. The whole residency was surrounded by a big verandah facing green belt. It must be a nice and pleasant experience while dining and spending leisure time.
Then I came across the bedroom lavishly done with beds under curtains and there was a pair of clothes disdplayed . Beautiful and formal looking outfits that must be worn during meetings or parties etc.
There was a lovely staircase in the house.
I loved the overall decor and ambiance of the house. Paintings displayed in the mansion were beautiful. There were many unique and interesting objects in the house.
It is always good to visit such residencies to get an idea of lifestyle of royal families of 19th century in Mauritius.
I would recommend this place to be visited because one gets to see the lifestyle of royal families.
