International Mountain Museum at Ratopahiro is a dedicated meuseum depicting almost everything regarding mountains.
Nepal Mountaineering Association established on 1st Nov, 1973 initiated the establishment of International Mountain Museum in Pokhara. Nepal Himalayan range is not only important to Mountaineers but also to Geologists, Sociologists, environmentalists and scientists to uncover the mysterious facts. It is aimed at maintaining systematic record of successful eight thousanders, flora fauna and other human activities in the range.

We covered it as a part of our day’s tour in pokhara. It is a vast open area with long walk from ticket window leading to the main enterence.
A 30ft high white mould of Mount Mansalu lies on the left hand with a memorial for mountaineers along the path to enterence.
The museum holds special screening about mountaineers all through out the day over projecter. It is to orient visitors about the people, culture and mountains of Khumbu region.
There was a small clip depicting the formation of Himalayas was specially loved by kids , who kept watching it again and again.
A separate enclosure shows all the mountains, various mountainering gears, and flora and fauna of the region , including leopards and tigers. It has the information of 14 peaks above 8,000 meters of height. Geological section of this hall displays rock samples in this region. It was interesting to see.
We moved ahead to see the life size models and lifestyle of various people in the mountain regions of Nepal, Taiwan, Slovenia and Japan like sherpas and many other facts about other tribes of the belt.
Later we brought soverniers from the shop.The city also has a Ethnographic Museum and Gurkha Museum.
Overall it was quite a knowledgeable and enriching experience.

There is a souvenir shop, a Gorkha Village restaurant, Garden and Maurice Herzog climbing wall
