Sarangkot is a small sleepy village and a hill station in Gandaki Zone , located approx 5 kms from lakeside , Pokhara. At a height of 1592 meters , it is considered one of the most scenic spots in Pokhara , renowned for its spectacular sunrise in the backdrop of Annapurna range of Great Himalyas. It is also the hub for Adventure sports activities including Paragliding and Tendem flying ( passenger flying with a pilot) and offers glorious views of Annapurna range and landscapes around Pokhara valley. The beauty of Sunrise at Sarangkot lies in its panoramic view of the Dhaulagiri (8167 met), Annapurna Range including Machhapuchchre – “Fish-Tail” Mountain (6997 met) along with Annapurmna II (7937 met) and III peaks.
At the sunrise , Glowing up of snow capped peaks of Annapurna Himalyan range creates a spectacular view and certainly a most memorable one. On other side it offers view of Pokhara Valley and Feva lake.
The most thrilling part of the scenic beauty is the view of majestic Himalyas reflecting sunrise , as most peaks facing sun glow with sunlight as sun rises.
Also considered as best viewpoint spot to enjoy the magnificent and spellbounding sunrise atop many hillocks and rooftops of houses , Sarangkot commands one of the broadest views of the snow capped Himalyas in Annapurna range with a splendid view of Pokhara Valley on the other side.
Another most important part is its proximity to Machpussere or Fish Tail Mountain which is the Hallmark of Pokhara. It lies bang opposite Sarangkot and thus people come in hoards to have glimpse of Sunrise.
Our Experience
We had planned a two day stay in Pokhara and saw a spectacular sunrise in Sarangkot, near Pokhra against a backdrop of Machpussere mountain in Annapurna range. We started off from our hotel in Pokhra in the morning by 4:30 AM so that we don’t miss out on sunrise.
The most surprising part was the vast sea of tourists , who got up so early in the morning and actually we got stuck in a small Traffic Jam at the Hillocks. The drive to Sarangkot was comfortable. We could see lush green fields and steep turns of hillocks only on our way back in the morning, since it was pretty dark when we went.
Children well and were curious about sunrise. We straight away went ahead to a viewpoint where lots of people had gathered to have glimpse of the sunset. We actually made it just in time and waited patiently on a balcony of a restaurant.
The sky was slowly glowing golden. It was a spellbinding view and I did not want to miss a single moment of it. Such a bliss!
There were groups of people on other clifftops clicking pictures.
Suddenly there were chants of Oohs and aahas , as the place became lively with all of us facing one of the most memorable sunrise.
As orange sun rose up from the clouds bang opposite Machhapuchchhere, we could see it’s rays reflecting from the mountain peaks. The peaks started glowing as we could slowly see the sun in it’s complete rounded form. It was a spectacular view and certainly a memorable one , as all of us were mesmerized by Machhapuchchhre and Annapurna glowing peaks.
Just to have a glimpse at one of the most memorable sunrise facing Machhapuchchre and Annapurna was indeed fulfilling for me as a travel enthusiast.
The setting sun creates orange hues over the peaks which I was able to see by God’s grace due to clear weather.I would certainly recommend this place to all people staying in Pokhara ,Nepal.
We returned back after spending some quiet moments at the rooftop and sipped black tea.
How to reach Sarangkot
People travel by private cars or taxis or buses from Pokhara. It takes a 45 minutes run from Pokhara. When you start consider the traffic jams on the road. One would not like to miss such a bliss when one has spent a lot of money!
