While I searched for hotels and resorts in Darjeeling via various websites, I realized Cedar Inn was the only hotel having the clear view of Kanchenjunga peaks right from the comfort of its rooms. And that was the deciding factor for me to choose Cedar Inn as one and only part of our stay in Darjeeling.
At the very first interaction with any of personnel of a hotel/resort, one can anticipate the kind of experience that can be expected.
As per our pre scheduled date , we reached Cedar Inn. Cedar Inn is located on Jalapahar Road. That is a beautiful location. Upon reaching there I realized that the view of Kanchenjunga peaks is actually their USP. Wow, we were elated to see the building and view before even we entered the property.
Ambiance of Cedar Inn
Staff welcomed us with silken stoles at sophisticated and sparkling doors. It was a complete wooden ambiance which I like the most.
Stairs were covered with green carpets to avoid the sound of climbing or getting down stairs.
In front, there was a sitting area which was very well arranged in front of reception.
Below the reception floor was Table tennis table and a lot of greenery.
Next to sitting area was restaurant.
If one looks further to sitting area, there is a big garden with seating arrangements of round tables. Further ahead is Cedar Towers having more rooms and play area for kids , family rooms.
As we headed to our room, there was a small lobby to relax with a little library. All along this, beautiful view of Kanchenjunga peaks and valley view followed us.
Ambiance of our Room
We were staying in Executive Suite. Initially, there was a little drawing room with fire place followed by a small lobby. Two cupboards , a well appointed bathroom with tub, shower and my favourite toiletries. Coffee Maker, mini bar , heater etc were all present in the room.
Wow, I could see Kanchenjunga peaks from my room. What more could have I wanted.
Service at Cedar Inn
Impeccable service provided by well trained and knowledgeable staff.
In our room, since it was chilling cold during nights, staff took extra care and laid hot water bottles on the bed to make the room cosy and comfortable. They even lit the fire place at night. We all enjoyed.
Restaurant staff was courteous. They specially made pasta for kids which they loved.
There was a buffet laid both at dinner and breakfast time. Every time , a good variety of dishes were prepared keeping in mind both domestic and international guests. Food was not spicy and kids loved it.
I could see General Manager- Mr. Yogesh Dikshit and restaurant manager paying personal attention to each and every guest.
Guidance by Mr. Yogesh Dikshit
Yogesh solved all our queries regarding sightseeing and even our trip further. He suggested how best we could see and what points in the limited time. He paid personal attention to us.
Cedar Inn arranged a sightseeing trip for us which was seamless and convenient. Every time you want to go to the mall road, you would get a shuttle service during morning and evening hours.
Next day we wanted to experience Sun’s first rays in India at Kanchenjunga peak. Since we had seen sunrise in Sarangkot Nepal, we only wanted to see Kanchenjunga reflect sun rays considering small kids and extremely cold weather in Darjeeling. So we decided to see from our room which had a clear view of the peak. As we waited for the sun rise, soon Kanchenjunga peak started glowing with orange hues. It was an excellent feeling to see Sun’s first rays in India. I had a strong feeling oif achievement and felt proud of myself.
We loved every moment spent in the property. I thanked myself for doing a diligent search for our stay in Cedar Inn.

This is so awesome, loved your experience staying with them.
I hope to be in Darjeeling some day and catch those breathtaking sights of Kanchenjunga…I was there long back but staying at another hotel.
Thanks Alok for your compliments. Do share your experience once you stay there.
I saw the photos.I think the room size is pretty small. Can you please tell me a little about the different room sizes? They have not mentioned it on their website. Also what are the heating facilities? Going there ion Mid December.
Is there running hot and cold water?
How long does it take to walk from the hotel to Mall Road?and is it safe to walk?
Also it seems the Breakfast Buffet spread is pretty ordinary? Please educate me on these to help me choose a proper hotel.
Suggest alternative good hotels too.
Thank you for reaching out to us. Rooms size at Cedar Inn was medium. Although it had another drawing room having a fire place. We loved our room and it’s drawing room. Hot and cold running water is there. It’s a magnificent property. The hotel even provides hot water bottles in the quilts to keep warm.
Also, the hotel provides cab facility till Mall Road. It was safe to walk there at the time we visited. Buffet was okay indeed. Bit the food was good, not so oily and was tasty.
The property was very cozy and well kept.
