Our sight seeing trip in Jaipur was organized by hotel- ‘Zone by the Park’. Everything was seamless and meticulously planned considering heat in Jaipur during early May. I was super curious to see City Palace, Jaipur the third time as I wanted to gain more knowledge and appreciate our heritage richness better.
We checked out in the morning to avoid any heat hours. City Palace was not very far from our hotel.
City Palace, Jaipur
The entrance gate to City Palace itself is exquisitely carved and is very attractive. There are tweo palaces Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal. City Palace houses a museums where traditional attires of Kings and Queens including sarees, shawls, kurtas, various arms used during wars etc are displayed. The other part of Chandra Mahal is still a residence of Royal family. The visit to museum was worth it even in heat of early May. Designs on royal attires were exquisite and created curiosity about the kind of craftsmanship during those days.
Photography is not allowed there. Then there is a souvenirs and jewellery shop. Diwan-i- Khas and Diwan-i- Aam are gracing the palace and need a separate mention. Carvings and intricate designs on walls and roofs are breathtaking. There are two big silver urns placed in Diwan-i-Khas. It is said that Sawai Madho Singh II had taken three such urns along with him to England as he wanted to have food and bath from this water.
Diwan-i-Aam is an area in Mubarak Mahal which has an elegant seating royal arrangement along with art gallery. The ceiling has beautiful designs with royal chandeliers of thetime. Carpet on the floor is still of the same era. I was just astounded by the gracefulness of the royal meeting hall.
City Palace I must say is worth visiting any time you visit Jaipur. Given a chance, I will visit again.
