I did thorough research on internet to decide the best hotel/resort to stay in Shillong. Ri Kynjai was the best as per all websites/blogs. As we reached the hotel, all my anticipations came true. It was about 10 Km away from main Shillong Town Market. Being away from the hussle bussle of Shillong, Ri Kynjai was like a dream.

Nestled in greenery in the lap of mother nature’s Umiam Lake or Barapani as it is popularly know, Ri Kynjai refreshed us at the moment we entered the hotel. Mesmerizing view of Umium lake just hypnotized me. I thanked myself for doing a thorough research.

The reception had marvellous wooden floors and furniture with ethnic and exotic artifacts, curtains, cushion covers. I loved how traditional stuff was used and displayed across the hotel. Not only did it enhance the ambiance but also gave many employment opportunities to locals.

Our cottage was a duplex accommodation. The ground floor of the cottage was well appointed with all modern amenities including mini bar, fire place, LCD, tea coffee maker. You name it, you get it. Last but not the least, our cottage had a magnificent view of Umium lake. Words can’t describe how beautiful the view was. I can only share pictures to make you realize the breath of fresh air one can get. I just loved my cottage. The upper floor had a single bed, table and lamp.

Next to our cottage was reception. On the floor below was restaurant, spa and emporium. Restaurant offers multi cuisine. Its a fine dining restaurant with splendid views of lake and greenery. Perfect service, delicious food are the words for restaurant. Restaurant Manager, Mr. Krishna was very respectful to all guests there.

Next to restaurant on one side was a conference room having a seating capacity of about 40.

On the other side of restaurant was spa which had a neat and clean ambiance. There are traditional massages and treatments that relieve muscle pain and joint aches.

Emporium had locally handcrafted stuff like stoles, cushion covers etc.

Beyond this floor was an open air eco friendly restaurant where one could easily dine while enjoying the lake’s view.

The resort had considered all needs and wants of high profile domestic and International guests to provide them a convenient and luxurious stay.

We were impressed with in room dining service. The food that we used to order would reach us fast and used to be piping hot. Loved the food served to us. Mr. Amit at the reception and Dariti in Corporate office were very helpful and guided us nicely on our queries of sightseeing and hotel services. WiFi worked well in room.
Nature’s trail at Ri Kynjai
I and kids were very curious to explore the nature’s trail that has other end at the lake. It was a beautiful, green path all along. Loved every moment of my walk there. One can easily spend hours just walking around, admiring the nature in serene, calm and peaceful atmosphere.

Overall, highly recommended property for business off sites, family stay and honeymoon couples. It is aptly called as ‘Serenity by the lake’. A must stay in Shillong to fall in love with nature all over again!
