Hawa Mahal
Hawa Mahal has always been a curiosity for me because of its name. I have always wondered what constitutes Hawa Mahal. Well my curiosity was resolved to an extent during my visit to Jaipur this time.
Front view
Hawa Mahal was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. This was built for Royal females so that they can attend street festivals while being unseen by the public. The lattice work in windows provide air conditioning effect in the area. So, this was a favourite summer resort for the King.

My experience at Hawa Mahal
Coloured glass windows
Hawa Mahal is in the shape of crown of Hindu Lord Shri Krishna. The intricate carvings along with designer lattice work and pink sandstone gives it a marvellous look. An interesting part of Hawa Mahal is that there are no stairs in province. So, it was not at all tiring. Slope way to the top floor is a narrow passage with windows in every bay. It was interesting to note that the whole palace was cool even at 11am during May. Going further was a hall of marble flooring and pillars with carved roofs and coloured glass windows. The look was so royal and elegant that I wanted to take photograph at every section of the hall.
Designer pillars and walls around coloured glass windows
There were separate open areas with little sections. Hawa Mahal has five floors. Each floor had different interiors and views. Glance from the top floor gave a beautiful view of the whole complex.
