Motithang Takins Preserve
Interesting Takin at Motithang Takins Preserve
Bhutan’s National animal is Takin. Takin was created by a mad saint-Drukpa Kunley as per legends in 5th century. Its front portion is of goat and the body of cow. These animals are found in Motithang Takin Preserve. It was an amazing fact to know that these animals are docile and don’t want to venture out even if set free. As a result, they got confined to a certain area leading to creation of Preserve in 2004 by the royal Government. There are about 40 Takins in this area. This area is also called Singyewang which means after Buddha as per our guide.
Takin
We were curious about these creatures. Since these animals don’t venture out and are also hand fed by visitors, they are obese.
It was interesting to know that Takins are used for medicinal purposes at the time of child birth.
